History & Heritage of the
Sajjan Rao Choultry
Sajjan Rao’s humility and generosity led him to endless benevolent acts throughout his life that earned him the Title “Dharmaprakasha” from the Mysore Maharaja at the time. A visionary businessman and philanthropist, he established this Choultry alongside the magnificent Sri Subramanya Swamy Temple in 1934. The latter was his call from the Almighty and is one of the more famous and popular temples for many devotees. The architecture and layout of this Choultry was meticulously orchestrated by Sajjan Rao and served the needs at the time. The venue was very popular with the community and has also hosted several weddings of Sajjan Rao’s own family. The Choultry underwent a thorough renovation for several years under the supervision of Sajjan Rao’s Great Grandson Ajay Kadam. It offers the community all the comforts and facilities one would expect in a present-day Choultry without sacrificing its historic traditional beauty.
